BotulinumtoxinA is used to treat unpleasant and excessive sweating. Hyperhidrosis often occurs in the armpits, hands and feet, as well as on the scalp and forehead. Hyperhidrosis is treated with BTX by injecting BotulinumtoxinA into the affected area of skin.

The synthetically produced BotulinumtoxinA temporarily inhibits the transmission of stimuli to the sweat glands. This almost completely suppresses sweat production in the treated area. An anesthetic ointment is applied locally before each treatment to ensure pain-free injections. The results are usually visible within one to two weeks and last for around six to nine months. However, it is important to note that each patient may react differently to the treatment and that regular top-up treatments may be required to maintain the desired results. Exercise and sauna should be avoided for 2 days after treatment.
